Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche – Using panic attacks for meditation

A clip from “Joy of Living: A Public Talk” DVD, Recorded in August, 2007. In this talk based on his groundbreaking first book, The Joy of Living (Harmony Books), world-renowned Buddhist teacher Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche invites us to join him in unlocking the secrets behind the practices of meditation. Working with neuroscientists at the Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior, he provides clear insights into modern research indicating that systematic training in meditation can enhance activity in areas of the brain associated with happiness and compassion. He has also worked with physicists across the country to develop a fresh, scientifically based interpretation of the Buddhist understanding of the nature of reality. Mingyur Rinpoche weaves together the principles of Tibetan Buddhism, neuroscience, and quantum physics in a way that will forever change the way we understand the human experience. makyoakuma – i have been overcoming anxiety attacks through his teachings. whenever i get a slight symptom of anxiety, i greet my anxiety. i say hello anxiety. or hello fear. thinking of anxiety as a friend helps it go away more quickly. it becomes shy.

Thanks uploader, this guy has a very warm and friendly style.

MakyoAkuma -> My interpretation is that Panic is created for a reason, it is based on our thoughts/ worries/ emotions. It can be very useful for these to be brought to the surface (ie. in a panic attack) so you can overcome them.

Mind, I’d rather not have panic attacks as they are the most horrible experiences I’ve encountered in my life, but his wisdom (which I’m guessing is explained more fully in his dvd) is quite helpful.

  • swapvid:

I don’t understand why there is so much down thumbs in buddhist comment.

Look how to work with negativity, this vid and many others are about this.

Buddhism is not about hiding reality, but about looking what it is how it is.

    Namaste digo.

  • swapvid:

and with so limited resources, he is quite better than you helping other people to have a better life.

  • SacredCowProductions:

No, it’s HOW WEED WON THE WEST. Check it out.

  • swapvid:

Of course, George Lukas is earlier than tibetan buddhism.

  • swapvid:

@SacredCowProductions Do you mean” how westerns suffer so much that needs weed to feel some reliefs?”

I saw that one. Not so funny. In fact is kind of sad and painful movie..

  • swapvid:

    That’s an emotionally color-blind comment.

  • swapvid:

Well, actually, they are humans too.

In fact, is more about that than you may think. Search a little more deep and you may found even more amazing things.

Lots of things like that are very very far of we western think about tibet.

For example, Milarepa one of the first great buddhist teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, actually he killled part of his family. Endeed he was a very holy man.

Search more, lots of things are not what the media tells us.

    And enjoy the surprises.
